GENERAL INFORMATION : SUPERIOR CABLE BUS

CONSTRUCTION

1. Superior cable Bus enclosures are manufactured in Aluminum alloy 6063-T6, Stainless steel or Galvanized (HDGAF) steel. However, in extreme low temperature conditions, aluminum is highly recommended for its superior material properties.

2. The non-magnetic support blocks are designed in segments to maintain a minimum of one power cable diameter in both the horizontal and vertical planes.

3. Superior Cable Bus enclosure parts are designed to ensure that there are no projections or sharp edges that could damage the power cable insulation or cause potential injury to personnel during its handling/transporting and installation.

4. Horizontal runs have support blocks spaced every 36″ and vertical runs every 18″.

5. Our Cable Bus enclosure fittings have a radius of 24 inches unless a different radius is required.

6. The bottom cover of the Superior Cable Bus enclosure section is factory installed prior to shipment.

ELECTRICAL

1. All current carrying power cables shall have insulation rated for 90°C operating temperature.

2. The power cables shall be phased and supported to maintain low impedance and assure the mechanical strength necessary to prevent power cable movement or damage under short circuit currents up to 100,000 RMS symmetrical amps.

3. Power cables shall be of continuous length and be pulled in after the cable bus enclosure is in place. Electrical connectors shall be used only at the termination of conductor runs or, if necessary, at tap points. Electrical compression terminal lugs shall be provided by us.

4. The resistance across the enclosure section splice of our Superior Cable Bus shall not exceed 50 μΩ.

5. The Canadian Electrical Code and the National Electrical Code requirement on grounding is adequately met in the design of the Superior Cable Bus system by the use of high pressure splice joints between bus sections. These splice joints eliminate the need to use bonding jumpers across cable bus sections. Splice plates and high pressure spline bolts are used to join cable bus sections together.

6. The Superior Cable bus enclosure shall be grounded at sufficient intervals for the purpose of preventing a potential above ground on the cable bus enclosure in the event of fault.

7. The power cables shall be arranged in a phasing pattern which minimize inter-phase and intra-phase unbalance.

8. Power cable temperature rise calculations and current balance calculations can be provided.
